google for:
+liteon +811s +firmware
Substitute the model number for each of those listed in your message.
Do they recognize older DVD+R media that used to work when the unit was new?
Good luck,

The 5007 unit will still read some CD's but no DVD's.I purchased this unit used,I gave it to my folks, they loved the TV guide feature but they have had minor problems with it like the clock and the door sticking,it used to play fine, they don't do a lot of recording but after six months it started having problems reading discs,I tried cleaning laser but I saw no improvement. The other unit I purchased new it reads about 20% of the dvds I put in it.Since you can't adust the lasers I need to get two drivers .I would prefer new but at this point I would take used ones.I see no reason to junk these just because the lasers are going bad.
Update I tried downloading firmware on 5007 to see if it would help,it now plays ALL cds but won't record on a cd still won't play or record dvds.
The laser on other unit is shot,it burned a HOLE in one of my dvds !!!
Another update,I couldn't find a new driver so I bought a used 451S,it seems to work okay but now the fan is stuck ON,it only goes off when I pull the plug. |

You are doing a good job of troubleshooting. I was going to mention that you should pick up a DVD burner, such as the 451S. Which fan is stuck on? The DVD recorder's fan or the 451S's fan? If it drives you nuts, you could disconnect the fan, but you risk the chance of burning out your hardware.
You kept mentioning that you were looking for new drivers. When we hear that, we are thinking you mean firmware. After reading through your post, I figured out that you were referring to the dvd burner. I have never really searched for an original dvd burner for one of these units, but I am quite certain it will be next to impossible to find one. You are pretty much stuck purchasing a compatible computer DVD burner, just as you have done.
Sorry you are having so many problems. My advice is to get a DVD recorder that can also record to an internal hard drive. I hardly ever record directly to DVD, and when I do, it is to a DVD+RW disc. I always record directly to the hard drive that I modded to be removable. LINK
Please post a picture of that DVD that has a hole burnt into it. I have never seen such a phenomenon.
Cheers,

If you have replaced the original DVD drive with a 451S and the machine still isn't playing and burning DVD's properly I would guess you are having more than drive problems.
If you can, please show us a photo of that DVD with the hole burned in it! |

The dvd recorders fan is stuck ON,it only goes off when I unplug it.
I found two used dvd recorders so I am going to try and fix my two units out of spare parts.
My web camera is not working.Hopefully I can send a photo later. |

Man... when the technical problems rain, they pour. Maybe you should start talking to your tech toys a bit nicer. They seem to be ganging up on you. This makes 2 DVD recorders, 1 DVD burner, and one webcam all wiggin' out on you at the same time. _________________ ActionScrambler makes protecting your published Flash SWF Actionscript code simple. Both of my liteon dvd recorders are working perfectly now,I used the parts from those three used units I bought and loaded all the new firmware I could find on the INTERNET.I bought a new heavy duty fan, works fine but a little noisy.
Haven't had time to mess with web camera,I will try to get that working next week and send photo. |
