Beginner level narrated video guide that will show you how to create a simple swf file that contains 3 section screens and simple buttons allowing you to navigate between these different sections. Good tips on button creation and layer management.

Note: If your display is set below 1280x1024, open the guide from the Weekly Flash Guide homepage, as it will open the video guide in a window without browser buttons and toolbars.

Hi Norm,
I guess I did something stupid. When I first played this guide I didn't have time to watch all of it, but now when I try to view it it stops playing at the point I stopped watching it the first time (you're just about to center the line of text). My guess is that I'm playing the part of the guide that was buffered on my hard drive during the first play. HELP! I would very much like to watch this!
Okay, never mind; I just emptyed my cache and that did it.
Question: If I use a font that is on my Pc, but won't be on the viewers machine, will they see my font? Does Flash "encode" fonts? You seemed to indicate it doesn't in the guide. |

| Okay, I learned something <and the crowd goes wild>. In order to view the WHOLE guide I had to change the internal settings of Flash Player 7 to use more than 10MB of hard drive space (the setting is "Unlimited"). Then it worked like a charm. |

Good question Harp. The answer isn't a simple yes or no. If you create static text, as I did on the guide, the viewer will see it in the font you used.
However, if you create dynamic or input text fields, your fonts may be substituted for a different font UNLESS you specify in your Flash File to embed the font in the swf file.
I may cover shape & motion tweening in the next guide. The sample Harp swf that you made in PowerBullet utilized motion tweening. |
