I just stumbled upon a new feature of VideoRedo version 2.2.1.445.

It now allows you to save out your final mpeg2, vob, or separate video and audio streams as Mpeg audio. Many of the newer DVD recorders encode the audio as AC3 which is not a very friendly format if you want to use any freeware/shareware programs to edit and author further down the line. I know Harp's LiteOn 5045 encodes AC3.

I had a clip with an AC3 audio track that I needed exported as a WAV file for my video editor. Unfortunately, Sony Vegas Video will not accept AC3 audio streams without purchasing a $200 plugin. It does accept Mpeg Audio files, which I then normalize and render out as a WAV file.

When you are saving out your edited video from VideoRedo, click on the options tab and specify that you want the audio in Mpeg format.

This little conversion will work splendidly for converting DVDs into Mpeg Audio DVDs that can be loaded directly onto the iLO HD04's hard drive. I converted a half dozen or so DVDs about a year ago the hard way... using all sorts of freeware software programs such as DVD2AVI & Besweet. It was a nightmare. I believe I made a post on TechoLio outlining my steps.
