iLO DVDRHD04 Split & Merge Guide (Part 1 of 2)

First... A Couple of Observations

Most iLO HD04 units are a few seconds late in splitting a program. Pressing the enter button on the remote control at the point of the split will place the split approximately 2 seconds off. (i.e.) I go some 2 seconds past my desired split spot, then press enter. [I count to myself 1, 2 then press enter]. You should first determine your split delay as it relates to your HD04 with a video recording that is not important to you or your family members.

The edit menu will not show until you select a program to edit. When the program has started, the set thumbnail will light right away. The split will not do so until some 7 seconds have passed into the video. I suggest you leave an adequate leader of approximately 30 seconds to ensure adequate time for a proper split.

While in the edit menu you can run or stop the recording, set chapter marks, and fast forward and rewind at speeds of 2x through 16x.

You cannot merge two recordings that are not recorded at the same quality setting.

The functions with the iLO are somewhat similar to that of a macro in PC software. Too long a push or a multiple push of the remote control buttons will result in the unit thinking that you gave it more than one command and possibly performing functions you didn't want, such as erase.

The erase function does display a warning, but sloppy button use will go right through this warning and erase a recording you wanted to keep. I feel that placing the erase function in the edit menu with the split, merge and thumbnail set is very dangerous. Keep this in mind and understand that you have to be careful. Make sure the function you want is highlighted prior to pressing the enter button.

If a problem occurs, continuous presses of buttons can only lead to more problems.
